Static Joy is not simply another forever-local punk band with big dreams. It’s the passion project of 4 highly skilled and hardworking musicians who want nothing less than to share their craft with the world.

Delaware State University had us play TWICE in one day! First, indoors as planned (see pic below) - but then they liked us so much, we went on again, outside, in the middle of everything! DSU Spring Fling FTW!

Wesley started learning to play drums as a kid, and was taught for years by local jazz/blues legend Spike Bryant. His career started similarly to Franco’s, with a church band, and continued with the Delaware Tech drumline, under the tutelage of the late and great Lenny Knight. He later moved on to play in various cover bands, as an occasional fill in for Dutchman, and with progressive metal bands Erase Me and Jungle Dream.

Franco started learning music as a kid;  first piano, then guitar as a teen. Shortly after picking up guitar, he began his musical career with his church’s band at only 14 years old, and he's still an active member to this day.   Franco and Jake both spent several very accomplished years in Dutchman before meeting up again in Static Joy.  Their prior experience working together is easy to see in the way that their writing and playing styles compliment each other.

Tony grew up in a family of musicians and has been singing and playing all kinds of instruments his whole life;  including 16 years of bass in touring bands.  Highglass Wave, Cinderfella, and From the Gallows to the Grave are just a few worth mentioning.  He’s also taught multiple other musicians how to play and learn by ear, he can read and write tablature, and he's the band's sound engineer!  Tony and Wesley have been jamming together off and on, since they were teens.  So you can be 100% sure, Static Joy has a rock solid rhythm section.

Our Story

This is where I’m gonna tell the world about how and why we started this, some of the awful things we’ve weathered since the beginning, and the story of our logo. I also want to add more pics of each of us down below, by our individual bios (which could probably use updating/editing tbh) -wes

-Rough draft-

Hardships: two evictions, two deaths, a life-changing diagnosis, and so much uncertainty; in every area except the undying desire to make this band into something worth remembering.

The Static Joy logo: Tippy is his name, and he was created by a man who went by the same nickname. Tragically, the real Tippy (Tristin Edlund) died not long after making one of the coolest logos of all time for us. As a group, we may not all have known him, but he was one of Jake’s closest friends in the whole world, and so we continue to use the logo as a sort of memorial, or tribute, to him and his family.

We should discuss among ourselves, and especially Tristin’s family, regarding how much detail to go into about him. I don’t want to use his death for commercial success, but I also don’t want to take a dead man’s art and run with it. Maybe one of our goals could be to donate some of our profits as a band to his family? Everything I’ve heard of him makes me wish I knew him. I didn’t though, and so I really don’t know how to approach the topic in general. -wes

Jake and Franco spent years together writing and playing songs in another band, before Static Joy was even an idea. Creativity is off the charts ‘round these parts.

Each of us has been working towards a musical career for most of our lives, and this band is the realization of that effort. Together, we are a machine that turns ideas and emotions into absolute bangers.
